AI is come to make responses easier and you read less.
If there's one thing that remains at Google, it's our love of AI, and that love has only grown in recent years. Google continues to move more functions within artificial intelligence from traditional processing to algorithmic processing. Although there are downsides to this progress, there are also many benefits to be gained from it.
Google first
opened up access to Bard earlier this year, but after a few improvements and a
combination of some in-house technology, Google has introduced us to its newest
LLM, Gemini. This new AI has three versions of him: Ultra, Pro and Nano. The
latter can be experienced first-hand in a very limited version, as only Pixel 8
Pro owners will be able to experience Google for the first time thanks to the
latest Pixel features released in December. If you want to know what it is,
start with the steps below.
How to Allow AiCore to Access Gemini Nano
First things
first. Gemini Nano and Google's new AI tools are still experimental and must be
enabled in developer settings. This option is only available on his Pixel 8 Pro
after upgrading to the December feature drop.
Open
Developer Options on your Pixel 8 Pro. If your phone does not have these
options, you will need to enable them using the following steps.
In Settings,
find the About section and tap the build number several times.
After enough
taps, a warning will appear indicating that Developer Options are unlocked.
Tap the
magnifying glass in the top right corner and search for "AiCore
Settings".
Select
AiCore Settings and tap the switch to enable AiCore Persistent.
Now you're
ready to try out the two tools that come with Gemini. However, please note that
these may take some time to appear on your phone. Google recommends connecting
your phone at night so the model can be downloaded to your device.
How to use Gemini in the Recorder app
The first
tool powered by Google's Gemini is coming to the Recorder app on Pixel. When
you create or open a recording in the app and tap to view the transcript,
you'll be prompted to view the summary. As you might have guessed, before
proceeding with the steps below, you need to make sure you're using a Pixel 8
Pro running the latest software version with December's Pixel features added.
Once you have checked these boxes and enabled AiCore as described above, you
can start creating your recorder overview.
- · Open the Recorder app on your Pixel 8
Pro.
- · Select audio recording.
- · Tap the Transcript option.
- · Read the AI-generated summary and tap
OK.
- · Download large language model.
- · When you download, you'll receive an
AI-generated summary in addition to your regular transcript.
- · If the selected transcript is too
long, a corresponding message will be displayed.
That's all you need. At this point, summaries are hit or miss in terms of the usefulness of the results. This is to be expected as this is still a new feature and only available to a limited number of users. I think the ability to summarize the recorder is very useful and should improve as more people use it.
How to use Gemini for smart replies on Gboard
This is a
tool provided by Gemini that will be more widely applicable and reach more
people, especially once it's available beyond Pixel 8 Pro and WhatsApp. It may
be helpful. Limiting this feature to Google's newest and most expensive devices
will definitely limit the number of users, but with WhatsApp you at least have
access to one of the world's biggest and best messaging apps.

So if you
are a WhatsApp user and he is using Pixel 8 Pro, make sure that AiCore is
enabled as explained in this article and then open the selected chat in
WhatsApp. If this feature is enabled on your device, you don't need to enable
anything else.
If you want to reply to a previous message, you'll see a quick reply option. These replies are similar to those you previously received using Gboard's Smart Reply feature, but over time, the new Gemini replies should improve. If you don't have this feature yet, try restarting your phone. Otherwise, this feature may not have reached your device yet.
Getting Smarter Every Day
AI models,
whether it's Gemini or ChatGPT, will only get better over time as more data is
fed into these AI products. Users like you and me generate this data and use
the features. Please note that Google's new Gemini Nano, which is being tested
with the above features, is an all-new LLM. The summaries and answers we
received today are likely to improve further in the coming months as more users
benefit and as Google continues to work behind the scenes.
Until then,
Pixel 8 Pro is your gateway to access the latest AI tools from Google. Until we
expand to more markets, apps, and devices, Google Assistant will continue to be
available to help you with many tasks. However, the overview of the recorder
and replying to WhatsApp is left to Gemini and Pixel 8 Pro for now.
